New research into “Apprenticeship outcomes and destinations” finds that support networks could prevent non-completions

27/10/2022

The trailblazing report newly published by The St Martins Group investigates the high numbers of apprentice non-completions and the most effective resolutions for retention.

The St Martin’s Group has completed thorough research to investigate ‘Apprenticeship Outcomes and Destinations’. Whilst scrutinising the reasons why a large cohort of apprentices do not complete, the research also uncovers how to effectively retain them.

Significantly, the research includes the largest sample of non-completers surveyed to date, providing unique detail on their characteristics, whilst presenting, for the first time, a comparison of the destination and outcomes between those who complete and those who do not.

Here at the Association of Apprentices, we recognise and aim to fill the requirement of further support in the apprentice experience. The research verifies that investment in the #apprenticeexperience is essential, highlights the requirement of differing support and interventions and finally that 31% and 27% of apprentice respondents say that support from their training provider and employer, respectively, with access to mentors and support networks, would have prevented them from leaving.

This important and timely insight encourages the wider apprenticeship community to consider best practice in increasing completion rates.
